The most crucial age point to start training a puppy is typically between 8 and 16 weeks of age. This period is often referred to as the "critical socialization period" and is a prime time for puppies to learn and adapt to their environment, other animals, people, and various stimuli. During this stage, puppies are highly receptive to new experiences and can quickly form positive associations with social interactions and learning.
Early training and socialization during this critical age can help puppies develop into well-adjusted, confident, and well-behaved dogs. It's important to start with basic training, positive reinforcement techniques, and socialization to expose the puppy to different people, animals, environments, and experiences. Consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement are key during this period to set a solid foundation for a lifetime of learning and good behavior.
At Mountain Dog Academy, we believe in the importance of evaluations for all our clients. This initial meeting allows us to meet both you and your dog, giving us the opportunity to discuss your basic training goals, address any problematic behaviors, understand your daily routine, and tailor a solution that best suits your needs. During this process, we can provide a comprehensive overview of each of our programs. Evaluations typically last between 15 to 30 minutes and are offered free of charge. This valuable step allows us to gain a deeper understanding of any behavioral issues you may be encountering, ultimately helping us recommend a program that is perfectly suited to your unique situation.
