We provide private lessons at our facility, tailored to meet the specific needs and goals of each owner. Private lessons offer a personalized approach that can be highly beneficial. However, it's important to understand that not all behaviors can be completely eliminated and may need to be managed. Our private lessons are designed to focus on achieving your desired results to the best of our ability.
Our trainers provide at-home private sessions. However, for all at-home private sessions, we request that the initial session take place in our facility. This allows us to observe how the dog behaves in a different environment. During this session, we will discuss any issues and begin crafting a customized training plan. These are subject to trainers availability.
Private lessons necessitating travel beyond a 10-mile radius from our facility or the trainer's location may incur additional charges.
All board & trains are subject to staff availability
Our board and train programs are custom-tailored to meet the goals of both the dog and their owner. Payment is required in full at the time of drop-off. Clients participating in board and train programs are responsible for providing their dog with a leash, collar, and food for the duration of their stay.
It's important to note that board and train programs do not include any tools, extra treats, or training equipment. For instance, if a client requires an off-leash skillset, they may be required to purchase an e-collar in addition to the training program.
During their board and train program, the dog will spend nights with the assigned trainer and return to our day school if the trainer is working that day. While board and train programs do not guarantee a 100% trained dog, they often yield the desired results.
Additionally, our board and train packages include two complimentary private lessons with our trainers: one on the day of pick-up and another two weeks after returning home. Clients are expected to follow up with their trainers to schedule these lessons. Should clients feel they need further assistance in maintaining the training at home, they should contact their trainer directly to arrange additional private lessons, which are priced at standard private lesson rates based on in-house or at-home services.
In addressing leash reactivity, we employ professional techniques to help your dog remain calm and focused during walks. Our trainers work diligently to reduce reactive behaviors and create more enjoyable outings for both you and your furry companion.
In our board and train programs, we effectively address crate-related issues such as fear, escape attempts, and soiling.
At Mountain Dog Academy, we address separation anxiety in dogs through gradual desensitization, counter-conditioning, and positive associations with alone time. Our trainers establish consistent routines, teach calm departures and arrivals, and build the dog's independence. We provide guidance and support for a more relaxed experience when apart.
When dealing with severe fear issues in dogs, our experienced trainers take a patient and gentle approach. We focus on building trust and confidence through positive reinforcement training methods. By creating a safe and supportive environment, we gradually desensitize your dog to fear triggers and help them overcome their anxieties. Our goal is to help your dog regain their confidence and enjoy a happier, more relaxed life.
Resource guarding in dogs involves possessive or protective behavior over items like food or toys, sometimes leading to growling or snapping when approached. At Mountain Dog Academy, we address this behavior with a systematic training approach. Our trainers use counter-conditioning and desensitization techniques to help dogs associate humans approaching their resources with positive experiences. We reward dogs for allowing us near their resource and gradually increase proximity. Additionally, we teach impulse control and alternative behaviors like 'leave it' or 'drop it' to replace guarding tendencies. This fosters a cooperative relationship between dogs and owners, making the living environment safer and happier for all.
In our board and train programs, we address dog-to-dog aggression by implementing structured desensitization and counter-conditioning protocols. Our experienced trainers carefully assess the aggressive behaviors, identify triggers, and work on redirecting the dog's reactions through positive reinforcement techniques. We focus on building the dog's confidence and social skills gradually, using controlled introductions to other dogs in a safe and controlled environment. Our goal is to reduce reactivity, replace aggression with calm behaviors, and create positive associations with other dogs. Throughout the program, we maintain open communication with the owner and provide guidance on continuing the training at home to ensure long-term success.

Achieving training goals for dogs often requires multiple sessions. Our lessons are tailored to your dog's specific goals, behaviors, breed, and temperament.
Our lessons offer insights into your dog's behavior, goal achievement strategies, and discussions about your dog. While full comprehension may not be immediate, it's crucial to maintain consistency at home and take responsibility for your training efforts. Clients who stay committed to their program typically experience positive results.
Session intervals vary, sometimes spanning days or weeks, depending on the dog's goals and temperament. Please note that lesson scheduling is subject to trainer availability.
During your sessions, there may be other dogs present, which our trainers will supervise for safety. These dogs assist in the learning, growth, and behavior recovery of your dog. This dynamic setting can also provide insights into various behaviors that may not otherwise be observed.
You can request a specific trainer for your services. However, trainers have the discretion to decline services that don't align with their needs or scheduling.
We recommend staying with one trainer for your private lessons, unless there are specific reasons for a switch. This helps maintain consistency in your training program and ensures clear understanding of all the information.
For clients with multiple dogs, we begin with individual sessions for each dog and gradually introduce them to group sessions. Pricing for multiple dogs will be based on separate sessions for each dog.
