Teaching the 'Place' command offers numerous benefits, including improved impulse control, reduction in excessive barking, begging, and door charging behaviors.
The significance of a reliable recall: Ensures your dog responds promptly to 'Come when called,' eliminating the frustration of 'keep away' games or chasing before important tasks.
Achieving leash walking excellence: Walking without pulling, lunging, or barking.
Our 'Sit Stays' and 'Down Stays' are instructed with an implied duration, requiring the dog to hold the position until released by a specific command word. This approach enhances safety, focus amid distractions, and establishes a strong foundation.
We focus on developing door etiquette, teaching dogs to wait and avoid bolting through open doors.
We emphasize reinforcing strong durations in each command to prevent premature releases, promoting extended 'down stays,' 'sit stays,' and 'place commands.

Certainly, an evaluation appointment is required before enrolling in our Daytrain program. This brief and complimentary process involves a meet and greet session between you, your dog, and a member of our training team. During this evaluation, we will discuss your goals, available services, and assist you in selecting a start date if you decide to enroll. Please note that all evaluations are conducted on-site at our facility for your convenience.
Our Daytrain program may not be generally suitable for dogs displaying human aggression or reactivity. However, each case is individually evaluated during the initial assessment to determine its suitability for Daytrain. If you suspect that your dog exhibits human aggression tendencies, please openly discuss this during the evaluation. If Daytrain is not the appropriate program for your dog due to such issues, rest assured that we have alternative options available specifically tailored to address the needs of dogs at that level. Your dog's well-being and safety are our top priorities.
Certainly, we do accept dogs into our program regardless of their spay or neuter status. However, we strongly encourage responsible choices regarding spaying or neutering. For female dogs, if they experience a heat cycle, we require them to stay at home during the entire cycle. This precaution is in place to prevent accidental breeding, potential dominance issues, and any aggressive behavior related to the natural desire for breeding, ultimately ensuring the safety of your dog and others.
Puppies can start training as early as 8 weeks old. It's important to start early to establish good habits and prevent bad ones from forming.
Our program comprises multiple daily sessions tailored to each dog's needs. These sessions typically begin with individual one-on-one training and gradually transition into group sessions where multiple dogs work together in the same environment. Additionally, we conduct outdoor sessions in all weather conditions, ensuring a well-rounded experience. For dogs that are compatible, we also offer group sessions to facilitate socialization among them.
We use a combination of positive reinforcement and behavior modification techniques to address unwanted behaviors, such as aggression, fear, and separation anxiety.
Dogs have diverse learning paces and skill levels. Clients who maintain consistency and practice at home often observe faster results. The Daytrain program follows no fixed schedule, as dog training is an ongoing process throughout their life stages. Owners typically conclude the program when their dog aligns with their specific goals.
If your dog is not comfortable in a group setting or struggles to relax in a bustling class environment, we may arrange a 30-minute private session with you instead of the scheduled group session. Our primary objective is to ensure the success and comfort of each dog, tailored to the preferences and needs of both the owner and the dog.
During one-on-one sessions, we typically limit the duration to 30 minutes. This allows us to maintain the dog's focus as they are the sole focus of attention during the session. We take care not to overwork the dog, preserving the positive progress achieved during the session. Our aim is always to create a positive and productive learning experience for both you and your dog.
For your dog's initial day, please ensure you bring a leash, collar, and vaccination record if not all vaccinations have been approved. If you wish for us to provide meals, kindly provide them as well. Rest assured, we have all the necessary dishes and supplies on hand for your convenience.
If you anticipate arriving late for pick-up, please contact the facility to inform us. Kindly note that late pick-ups incur charges. For late drop-offs, please notify a staff member before 9 AM on the same day with your estimated arrival time. Thank you for your cooperation.
In our Daytrain program, we supply all necessary treats for your dog's training sessions. However, if your dog has any allergies or sensitivities, we kindly request that you provide suitable treats for their safety and well-being.
We offer multiple payment options, including cash, credit card, and checks made payable to "Mountain Dog Academy." We kindly request that payment for all services is settled on the day of the service.
Please note that all services are non-refundable. In the event of cancellations or adjustments, clients may be issued store credit rather than refunds. Clients also have the option to pre-pay for scheduled days, but it's important to keep in mind that all pre-paid services remain non-refundable. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation regarding our payment and refund policy.
Yes, we offer group classes for socialization and basic obedience training. It's a great way for your dog to interact with other dogs and learn important skills.
When you believe your dog has achieved your desired training goals, please notify one of our trainers. We will promptly arrange your final session and provide you with a graduation certificate to mark your success.
Even after your dog has successfully achieved all their training goals, they are welcome to continue participating in our program. This allows us to shift our focus towards other objectives, such as enrichment, socialization, exercise, and entertaining tricks. Having a well-trained dog doesn't mean we can't continue to provide stimulating and safe experiences throughout their day, which ultimately enhances their well-being. This service is designed to support owners with busy schedules, ensuring their dogs remain enriched and content while they are at work or otherwise occupied.
