All board & trains are subject to staff availability
Our board and train programs are custom-tailored to meet the goals of both the dog and their owner. Payment is required in full at the time of drop-off. Clients participating in board and train programs are responsible for providing their dog with a leash, collar, and food for the duration of their stay.
It's important to note that board and train programs do not include any tools, extra treats, or training equipment. For instance, if a client requires an off-leash skillset, they may be required to purchase an e-collar in addition to the training program.
During their board and train program, the dog will spend nights with the assigned trainer and return to our day school if the trainer is working that day. While board and train programs do not guarantee a 100% trained dog, they often yield the desired results.
Additionally, our board and train packages include two complimentary private lessons with our trainers: one on the day of pick-up and another two weeks after returning home. Clients are expected to follow up with their trainers to schedule these lessons. Should clients feel they need further assistance in maintaining the training at home, they should contact their trainer directly to arrange additional private lessons, which are priced at standard private lesson rates based on in-house or at-home services.
Does your dog whine, bark, or lunge at people, pets, and moving objects? If so, they may be reactive. In addressing leash reactivity, we utilize counter conditioning and desensitization. Our trainers work diligently to reduce reactive behaviors and create more enjoyable outings for both you and your furry companion.
In our board and train programs, we effectively address crate-related issues such as fear, escape attempts, and soiling.
At Mountain Dog Academy, we address separation anxiety in dogs through gradual desensitization, counter-conditioning, and positive associations with alone time. Our trainers establish consistent routines, teach calm departures and arrivals, and build the dog's independence. We provide guidance and support for a more relaxed experience when apart.
When dealing with severe fear issues in dogs, our experienced trainers take a patient and gentle approach. We focus on building trust and confidence through positive reinforcement training methods. By creating a safe and supportive environment, we gradually desensitize your dog to fear triggers and help them overcome their anxieties. Our goal is to help your dog regain their confidence and enjoy a happier, more relaxed life.
Resource guarding in dogs involves possessive or protective behavior over items like food, toys, people, and space, sometimes leading to growling or snapping when approached. At Mountain Dog Academy, we address this behavior with a systematic training approach. Our trainers use counter-conditioning and desensitization techniques to help dogs associate humans approaching their resources with positive experiences. We reward dogs for allowing us near their resource and gradually increase proximity. Additionally, we teach impulse control and alternative behaviors like 'leave it' or 'drop it' to replace guarding tendencies. This fosters a cooperative relationship between dogs and owners, making the living environment safer and happier for all.
In our board and train programs, we address dog-to-dog aggression by implementing structured desensitization and counter-conditioning protocols. Our experienced trainers carefully assess the aggressive behaviors, identify triggers, and work on redirecting the dog's reactions through positive reinforcement techniques. We focus on building the dog's confidence and social skills gradually, using controlled introductions to other dogs in a safe and controlled environment. Our goal is to reduce reactivity, replace aggression with calm behaviors, and create positive associations with other dogs. Throughout the program, we maintain open communication with the owner and provide guidance on continuing the training at home to ensure long-term success.

Booking a board and train is simple. You can reach out to our facility through our website's inquiry forms, call us at (413) 346-4100, send a text to our hotline at (855) 937-4318, or contact us via email or Facebook. Board and Trains require an evaluation during our regular business hours from 7 AM to 5 PM. For after-hours bookings, availability will depend on the trainer's discretion and availability.
Board and trains range in length depending on the dog's behavior and owner's goals. The minimum is 2 weeks.
You can request a specific trainer for your services. However, trainers have the discretion to decline services that don't align with their specialties or scheduling.
The length of most board and trains do not provide the time to have a fully trained adult dog. Board and Trains are great at getting a jump start to help improve behaviors and reach your goals quicker. Owners are responsible for maintaining the training received as well as continuing on their own. Board and Trains are like your dog completing Elementary School, they still have two more to go with you.
Part of Board and Trains is your dog learning to be a seamless part of a household. Although crates will likely be utilized for feeding times, some nap times, and when not being directly supervised, they will be a part of the trainer's household.
